Family cars in South Africa

leave a comment

19 July 2012. We have our 3rd little one arriving in September, and through experience know that 3 car seats at the back of our Toyota Corolla is a tight squeeze, so are looking for something a little bigger. I was surprised that I couldn't find any quality comparisons of what's available in terms of family sized vehicles in South Africa - there are bits & pieces of info all over the show, but no up to date point by point comparisons. Also, the industry's writing style doesn't help with decision-making, as they tend to gush about the vehicles, avoid drawing comparisons and use jargon (sounds like the investment industry!). So I decided to do it myself, and share what I learned!

What's important to us

Our family have to travel a lot for our business. The main criteria that we'll judge by (in order of priority) are:

Note for petrolheads - we don't care about vehicle performance, so for example haven't considered the 4x4 version of the Hyundai ix35 as we plan to remain on the tar.
