2012-01-04 CIPLA Medpro South Africa Ltd is strongly associated with Cipla, India's largest pharmaceutical company.
Cape Town based Cipla Medpro, which has been going for nineteen years, is the quickest growing South African pharmaceutical company, & has a large & increasing share of the SA medicines market. CIPLA Medpro offers a range of advanced medicines and products targeting disease categories including antimalarials, cardiovascular, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, oncology, psychiatry & respiratory.
Recently, Durban-based Cipla Medpro Manufacturing underwent a R341m upgrade to achieve international Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme standards, making it one of the first in SA to have this accreditation. The facility manufactures certain lines of the group's products and offers contract manufacturing solutions to South African & multinational companies.
In September 2011, the oncology division was opened.
In May 2011 CIPLA Agrimed, an animal health company, was awarded R100m over 2 years of the national tender RT12-2011.
In December 2010 CIPLA Medpro was awarded R633m of the ARV tender RT71-2010.
In September 2010 the manufacturing facility in Durban was opened by Jacob Zuma
Since the group's inception in January 2003, Sibusiso Luthuli has chaired the board. Sweet Sensations, an collection of 13 empowerment consortiums, owns 18.1% of CIPLA Medpro South Africa (& has 2 non-executive directors on the Board). These consortiums include:

Businessmen like Thembisa Dingaan, Mbali Ngqula & Dr Bobby Ramasia.
Inala Consortium, headed by Bongani Mlambo, which includes healthcare professionals with both government & retail experience. The Inala Consortium owns various pharmacies & is involved in medical aid administration.
Koketso Growth, lead by Mandla Langa & Dali Tambo, and has healthcare sector investments.
New Era Consortium and the Laxmi Group, which are involved in South African & international packaging for pharmaceuticals.

Two Ships Trading 237, led by Doctor Aubrey Mokoape.
Yonga Consortium, headed by Bongani Caga, and including DENOSA among its members, the biggest nursing entity in Africa, which represents some 80 000 nurses and mid-wife professionals in SA.
